Last Thursday, the Nevada State Gaming control Board (GCB) released a report confirming that despite a slow June, Nevada recorded $12 billion win from gamblers a 10.8 percent increase over the previous year at the closing of Fiscal 2006. The amount is all that’’s left at the casinos by gamblers who wagered a record of $168 billion during the fiscal year.
The “win” is the total amount left in casinos” funds after payouts to gamblers are deducted from money that’’s bet on tables, in slots and on sports events; a gross figure, with no operating costs or other expenses deducted. It’’s only casino revenue excluding hotel, restaurant or bar revenues generated by casinos.
“This is the strongest growth we”ve posted in the last six years,” GCB analyst Frank Streshley said, adding that all major markets around the state except for downtown Las Vegas had year-over-year gains.
Slots accounted for a record $8.1 billion, or two-thirds of the total, in the $12.2 billion total win breakdown. Of all the money won by slots, Multidenomination slots accounted for $3.2 billion, followed by quarter slots at $1.4 billion and penny slots at $1.1 billion.
Led by blackjack with $1.3 billion, Table or “live” games accounted for $4.1 billion of the total. Followed by Craps, which produced $462.2 million and baccarat accounted for $743.4 million. Growing in popularity, Poker, accounted for $152.5 million, and for the first time exceeded the win on sports bets, which was $140.6 million.
The fiscal year ended with a $921.1 million June win for the clubs, down 3.5 percent over the same month a year earlier. Streshley said that’’s the first month-over-month decline in nearly two years – partly the result of player luck at table games and a lack of any major special events around the state.
